Sumatra is an island of beautiful landscapes and thick forests. Outshined by the more popular Bali the fascinating charms of Sumatra are often overlooked, the remaining Sumatra jungles are filled with the last of the endangered Sumatran Tiger, herds of Sumatran Elephants, Sumatran Rhino and the orange Orang Utan. It is also culturally diverse. The wide variety wilderness, culture and landscapes offers something new and exciting for everyone beyond the mainstream, not to mention the fascinating culture different from anything you’ve ever seen, its charms are reserved for the most venturing souls who don’t mind a bit of a wild card in their travel plans. The most popular tourism destinations such places like Gunung Leuser National Park where tourists trek through the forests to see the wild orang utan and wash elephants in the rivers. Or the famous Danau Toba, which is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia, where you can spend days relaxing on the waterside resorts of Samosir island and encounter the native Mentawai Tribe in the Mentawai Islands. For all its charms is not so popular with tourists. Outside of the major cities your choice of accommodation is limited.
